Mrs. George Hartshorne, for the past twenty-five years a resident of Boswell, died at the homes of her sons-in-law and daughters, Mr. and Mrs. Walter Claycomb and Mr. and Mrs. Frank T. Custer, at 645 Highland avenue, (Moxham) Johnstown at 4:15 o'clock Monday afternoon, after an illness extending over the past several years. Mrs. Hartshorne's condition, however, did not become alarming until after a few months ago when the permanent decline in her health became evident. At times it was apparent that the medical aid might overcome the complication of disease which had already made inroads upon her physical vitality, but as time elapsed her condition gradually grew more critical and on Sunday, Mrs. Hartshorne lapsed into a state of semi-consciousness from which she never aroused, her death coming at the time stated in a most peaceful manner, and without any apparent pain as she slipped quietly across the span which separates this life from the Realms of Beyond.
Mrs. Hartshorne lived a quiet and unpretentious life--one unmoved and unaffected by the frivolities of this world, but throughout her earthly existence she was always sensitive and alert to every duty affiliated with upright living, and the commendable influences of life made her a faithful wife, a dutiful and loving mother and a kind and considerate neighbor and friend--one who will be sadly missed not only by the members of her family, but as well by her host of friends and acquaintances.
Mrs. Hannah (Pilkington) Hartshorne, a daughter of Thomas and Elizaabeth Pilkington, deceased, as born in Accrington, England 1867, being aged at the time 65 years, three months, and twenty four days. When a little child, about six -months old, the deceased came to this country with her family and located at Phillipsburg, where she grew into womanhood. In 1891 she was united in marriage with George Hartshoren and to the union seven children--two sons and five daughters, were born; six of whom, whit the husband and father, survive to mourn deeply the passing of their beloved mother. The surviving children are: Alice, wife of L.L. Sprowls; Ruth, wife of J.C. Oswalt, and Miss Audrey of Hartshorne, all of Boswell; Esther, wife of Frank T. Custer; Marguerite, wife of Walter Claycomb, and George Hartshorne, Jr., all residing at 645 Highland avenue, Johnstown. Mrs. Hartshorne is survived by the following grandchildren: Romaine, Lavonne, and Merwyn Lee Sprowls, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. LK. L. Sprowls, and Audrey, Elaine and Telford Custer, children of Mr. and Mrs. Frank Custer,. IN addition, the deceased is also survived by the following brothers and sisters: Alice Pilkington, wife of John Hagan, Houtzdale; Robert Pilkington, of Belleville, Ill.; William Pilkington and John Pilkington, of Beckley, West Virginia; Thomas Pilkington, of Herrin, Ill.; Ada Pilkington, widow of Marshall Fleck of Morgantown, West Virginia, and Bessie, wife of T. W. Maffet, of Canonsburg. One son, Clarence, who died at the age of three years and the following sister preceded the deceased to the grave: Bertha Pilkington, wife of Fred Klett of Phillipsburg; Martha Pilkington, widow of Robert Burton, Philllipsburg, and Mary Pilkington, wife of F.C. Croyle, also of Phillipsburg.
Mrs. Hartshorne was a life long member of the Phillipsburg Episcopal church and in addition to spending the past twenty-five years in Boswell, resided with her family for brief peridods of time at Barnesboro, Windber, Patton, and Kimmelton. She was one of a family of eleven children.
The body was turned over to L.G. Hoffman, Boswell mortician, to prepare for burial. THe funeral will be held Thursday afternoon, May 4, at 2:00 p.m., at the deceased late home on Center street, Boswwell. The Rev. Walter E. Lundberg, pastor of the Bosewell and Jerome Lutheran churches, will officiate. Interment will be made in the Jenner Cross Roads cemetery.

He married Hannah (Annie) Pilkington on November 18, 1891, in Philipsburg, Pennsylvania. They had seven children in 15 years. He died on October 25, 1940, in Boswell, Pennsylvania, at the age of 74.
