Suzanne Ball Asch, of Midland, Michigan, peacefully passed away on Sunday, August 21, 2022, at the Woodland Hospice House in Mt. Pleasant MI. What a wonderful legacy she lived and passes on. Sue was born on October 7, 1934, in Saginaw, Michigan, to Howard Rockwell and Katherine Peters (Panter) Ball. Sue was the grandniece of Herbert Henry and Grace Ball Dow of Midland. She graduated from Midland High School in 1952 and continued her education at Michigan State University and Boston’s Katie Gibbs School. Sue very much enjoyed the Great Lakes and the multitude of summers spent with extended family at Point Lookout. On August 23, 1980, Sue married Theodore Nelson Asch of Midland, Michigan, passing away only two days short of their 42nd anniversary. Fashion was a central aspect of Sue’s career beginning with the Village Store in Upper Arlington, Ohio. She later opened Main Street Ltd. in both Midland and Northport, Michigan, with amazing business partners. In her free time, Sue was an avid fan of musicals often heard signing “I love you a bushel and a peck” to her grandchildren. Sue also held a tremendous love for dogs often spoiling any dog she would encounter including her own. When not offering treats to the dogs in the area, Sue had a strong penchant of her own for bakeries and sugar cookies. Sue gave unconditionally and served children and those in need for most of her life. Sue was a faithful follower of Jesus and is with her Maker now “Praise the Lord”. Ted & Sue retired in northern Michigan, spending their time on M-22 & M-31, peninsula drives with chai tea lattes in hand. Sue was fortunate to be surrounded by a powerful group of life-long friends in Midland, Jim & Lee Fabiano, Ann Dissette, Sue Daeschlein, Janice Early and Bob & Diane Quick, to name a few who have been with her in this journey.
Perhaps Sue’s greatest legacy is her family to whom she was extremely devoted. Survivors include her faithful husband, Theodore; five children: Scott Hendrickson (Sue) of Elk Rapids, MI, Chad Hendrickson (Toni Sakaguchi) of Napa, CA, Dan Hendrickson (Carey) of Upper Arlington, OH, Amy Hendrickson Habben (Chris) of Shawnee, KS and Peter Jacob (Kathy) of Elk Rapids, MI; one brother, James Ball (Ann) of Kewadin, MI; one sister-in-law, Sally Ball (John); six grandchildren, Amanda Hendrickson, Abbey Cooper (Chris), Bo (Carli) Sakaguchi Hendrickson and Max Sakaguchi Hendrickson, Maggie and Clayton Habben; two great-grandchildren, Jackson and Charlie Cooper; and many nieces and nephews. And Ted’s children, two step-daughters, Sue Werner (Jeff) of Sanford, MI, and Cindy Munroe (Tim) of Midland, MI; three step-grandchildren, Alex and James (Jasmine) Werner and Nik (Gabi) Munroe. She was preceded in death by her parents and one brother, John (Sally) Ball.
The family will gather for a Celebration of Life service in beautiful northern Michigan at a later date. In lieu of donations, plant, give, share flowers with family, friends and your local nursing homes.
We would like to give appreciation and honor to the MidMichigan Hospice nurses and staff, dedication and love received as they helped Sue finish strong at the Woodland Hospice House. Please support Woodland Hospice in Mt. Pleasant with a gift of your choosing.
