James ELLIOTT b.ca1710 (traditionally...however, he received a cattle mark in
1717 and had to be 21 to get it. Therefore, he must have been born ca1696.)
in Baltimore Co.,MD He was the son of James ELLIOTT who was the son of
Edward ELLIOTT (it is believed that Edward arrived in MD in 1634 with Cecil
Calvert, as Calvert's secretary. He isn't listed on the passenger lists of
the Ark or the Dove, the two ships of Lord Baltimore who made the 1634
landing. However, those lists were compiled from other records of St. Mary's
City, MD over 200 years after the landings. The archives of these ships and
the early St. Mary's City archives are housed at the library in Leanordville,
MD (at least that is our understanding. The library was closed for
restoration when we were there...of course!)
