Dr. Reineke’s independent research career is focused on metabolic and molecular signaling in the heart, with a specific focus on stress-induced changes. She completed her graduate studies in the lab of Dr. Hung-Ying Kao in the Department of Biochemistry at Case Western Reserve University in Cleveland, Ohio focused on the molecular aspects of cancer biology, and postdoctoral training with renowned endocrinologist Dr. Bert O’Malley in the Department of Molecular and Cellular Biology at Baylor College of Medicine in Houston, Texas. Postdoctoral studies included investigating transcriptional regulation of skeletal muscle metabolism by a class of transcription coactivators the steroid receptor coactivators (SRCs). These studies led into an unexpected path studying metabolic control in cardiac muscle especially during cardiac stress events.
