Michael Francis Sacco passed away suddenly on Wednesday, December 19, 2018, at the age of 72. A Pawleys Plantation resident, Michael was born in Syracuse, New York on September 6, 1946. Michael is survived by his loving wife, Carol Brown Sacco of Pawleys Island; his sister, Sharon Sacco of Syracuse, NY; nephew, Todd Paikin (Stacey) of Fort Lauderdale, FL; niece, Susan Hoalcraft of Syracuse, NY; brothers-in-law, Larry Brown (Alice) of Charlottesville, VA; and Alan Brown (Tina) of Pawleys Island.
Michael attended the University of Iowa on a football scholarship and completed graduate work at the University of Virginia. A retired Lt. Commander in the U.S. Navy, Michael valued his service to his country and continued to feel a strong connection with his military brethren. After military service, Michael worked as a sales representative for various organizations; served as President of the Black Hills Gold Company in Rapid City, SD; and represented Color Craft, a gemstone jewelry company in New York City.
In selecting an area to live his retirement years, a prerequisite was a climate that allowed him to indulge in golfing on a regular basis, thus – Pawleys Island. Never one to sit on the sidelines, Mike was formerly a member of the Board of Visitors at the University of Virginia, and a member of Latrobe Country Club in Latrobe, PA. Currently, Mike belonged to the Wachesaw Plantation Club, was president of Wood Stork Landing HOA, served as a volunteer for the First Tee of the Grand Strand, and was a member of Precious Blood of Christ Catholic Church. While no longer able to sit in the bleachers as a season pass holder, Mike will continue to cheer on the Coastal Carolina Chanticleers from above.
A funeral service will be held at 11:00 am Monday, December 24, 2018, at Precious Blood of Christ Catholic Church. Burial will follow at Pawleys Island Presbyterian Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 2:00 – 6:00 pm Sunday, December 23, 2018, at Goldfinch Funeral Home, Litchfield/Pawleys Chapel.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in the name of Michael Sacco to Father Pat’s Kitchen, 1633 Waverly Road, Pawleys Island, SC 29585; or to Disabled Veterans, DAV Chapter 30, PO Box 30637, Myrtle Beach, SC 29588.
