Notes for Susan K. (Spouse 1)
Mount Union, Nov. 13.-Mrs. Susan Kesler Geissinger Oswalt, a highly esteemed resident of Mount Union during the past 11 years, died at her home, 10 W. Shirley Street, at 10:25 o'clock Thursday morning, November 12, 1931. While it was generally known that Mrs. Oswalt, because of advanced age, had not been in the best of health for some time, she was confined to her bed but about two weeks before death relieved her sufferings. Her children were constantly at her bedside and physicians and trained nurses did all in their power to prolong her life but to no avail. She was past 77 years of age and her passing away caused deep regret and keen sorrow to a large circle of friends.
Born March 15, 1854, in Union township, Susan Kesler Geissinger Oswalt was the daughter of Charles and Margaret Vandevander Geissinger. On March 4, 1880 she was united in marriage with James Madison Oswalt, at Mill Creek, Pa., by the Rev. Black. Her husband died February 8, 1902.
Mrs. Oswalt was a splendid Christian woman of sterling character. She kept her own home and was always hospitable and generous. She was a devoted mother and grandparent and during the 11 years she lived in Mount Union she endeared herself in the hearts of many friends. Prior to her coming here she lived with her family in Mapleton and the news of her death caused much sorrow to many there, also. She was a member of the Baptist Church at Mill Creek.
Surviving are the following children, Florence, the wife of Wayne V. Fuller, of Mount Union; James Clyde Oswalt, Boswell, Pa.; and Carlton Buell Oswalt, Mount Union. Three grandchildren also survive. They are Mrs. Robert Martin, Carlton Campbell Oswalt and Mary Louise Oswalt.
Funeral services will be held Saturday afternoon at 2:30 o'clock from her late home, 10 W. Shirley street. The Rev. H. H. McIlroy, pastor of the Mill Creek Baptist Church will officiate and W. Q. Blatt, will direct the interment in the Mill Creek cemetery.
