Nellie died in a car accident when James accidently ran a stop sign in Leeper, Pa. (going to or coming from daughter Florance's place).
She asked him why he ran the stop sign, he looked over at her just as car hit them on her side.

Came from Wales at age 11 to work in the mines. At age 15 was superintendent of a mine, at age 17 was in charge of a large number of mines. Wife Nellie managed the house of 9 kids while he was away for a month at a time.
