Notes for Doris Nan Hunker
After being born and raised in the Akron, Ohio area, Doris attended college and graduate school. She dedicated her professional career to teaching first to third grades in Lakewood, Ohio, with Department of Defense schools in Germany, a public school in Colorado, and finally settled in Marin County, California where she taught at Reed Union School in Tiburon. She retired from teaching in 1991.
Doris has traveled extensively with her parents and later on her own. She was a member of the Marin Canoe Club, the Mill Valley Women’s Golf Club, Larkspur Walkers and the Corte Madera Women’s Club. For many years she returned to Ohio to care for her parents and attend meetings of the Peninsula Foundation, an organization founded by her brother that is devoted to the preservation of Cuyahoga Valley National Park. She enjoyed cross country skiing, canoeing and golf.
Doris also enjoyed staying in touch with family while preparing family tree information for the Brown and Hunker families.
